Commissioner, District 2

Victor Edwards

Commissioner Victor Edwards

Commissioner Victor Edwards is a proud native of Dougherty County and a dedicated public servant with deep roots in local government and community engagement. He attended Albany State University and Darton College, majoring in sociology.

Commissioner Edwards is also an accomplished author, having written the book “Laugh or Go Crazy.” In 2025, he published his autobiography chronicling his return to politics after decades of community advocacy.

From 1992 to 1994, Commissioner Edwards was the host and producer of a local talk show called “YOUTH Street.” The show aired on several networks and encouraged young people and adults to never give up on life, embodying his commitment to uplifting the community.

Public service runs deep in his family. His sister, Velvet Riggins-Poole, served three terms as School Board chairman, and his mother, Muralean Edwards, served two terms as a Dougherty County commissioner.

After overcoming astronomical odds from outside forces, Commissioner Edwards returned to the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners 25 years later, continuing his legacy of service and leadership. His favorite scripture, Galatians 6:9, reflects his outlook on perseverance and service:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

“I’m proud to live here in Dougherty County and the City of Albany,” Commissioner Edwards said. “This is my home, and I am honored to serve the people of this community.”
