The Dougherty County Tax Department is managed by an appointed tax director and is responsible for receiving and processing all property tax returns for the citizens of Dougherty County. The department collects all ad valorem taxes in Dougherty County, the City of Albany, the Board of Education and the State of Georgia. This includes real estate, automobile, personal property, mobile homes, and timber tax. The office maintains all records in compliance with the Georgia Department of Revenue regulations, and annual audits by the City of Albany and Dougherty County. 

The Tax Department includes the Board of Assessors; responsible for placing values on all real and personal properties in Dougherty County for tax assessment.

 

The Dougherty County Board of Commission has tentatively adopted a 2025 millage rate which will require an increase in property tax by 16 percent for the Countywide General fund.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on the tax increase to be held at the Government Center, 222 Pine Avenue, Albany, GA.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 22.069 mills, an increase of 3.044 mills.  Without this tentative increase, the millage rate will be no more than 19.025 mills.  The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of 125,000 is approximately $146.11 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of 125,000 is approximately $152.20.

 

The Dougherty County Board of Commission has tentatively adopted a 2025 millage rate which will require an increase in property tax by .14 percent for the Unincorporated Special Services District.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on the tax increase to be held at the Government Center, 222 Pine Avenue, Albany, GA.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 9.173 mills, an increase of .013 mills.  Without this tentative increase, the millage rate will be no more than 9.160 mills.  The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $125,000 is approximately $0.62 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $125,000 is approximately $0.65.

 

The department collects all ad valorem taxes in Dougherty County, the City of Albany, the Board of Education and the State of Georgia.
