The Dougherty County Solid Waste Management/Landfill began operation in February of 1983. The Landfill was budgeted under the General Fund until July 1, 1990 when the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners established a Solid Waste Enterprise Fund. Under the direction of the Solid Waste Director, the Solid Waste Fund is responsible for receiving, processing and disposing of all solid waste generated in Dougherty County. The County Landfill disposes of approximately 400 tons of waste per day.
Operation hours for customers Monday- Friday 7:30 am to 5 pm, Saturday 7:30 am to 12pm, and closed most public holidays, but there are some exceptions. We close the gates 15 minutes before closing each day so we can properly and safely close according to mandated EPD regulations. Once a month we close from 12pm- 1pm to preform employee monthly safety meetings. All loads coming to the Landfill must be fully- covered or secured for transport.
Dougherty County Landfill accepts most everything non-hazardous with the exception of Herbicides, Pesticides, Gasolines, Oils, Batteries and Tires with rims on them. No hazardous waste accepted, biomedical waste accepted or disposal of hazardous or toxic material. Restricted nonhazardous waste requires written approval before acceptance.
The Dougherty County Landfill is not responsible for any injuries or damages that may occur as a result of using the Landfill this includes but not limited to individuals, vehicles, trailers. Customers dispose of their loads at their own risk.
The Dougherty County Landfill does not permit the following no Alcoholic Beverages, Firearms. Absolutely no scavenging once it comes across the scales it becomes property of Dougherty County Landfill. Children must remain in the vehicles at all times while on the property. Please follow all posted signs and instructions Dougherty County Landfill does not permit sightseeing around the landfill.
