Dougherty County Honors Beloved Educator Lovye Williamson Cochran Ahead of 100th Birthday

ALBANY, Ga. — The Dougherty County Board of Commissioners honored a century of service, leadership and compassion by presenting a proclamation recognizing longtime educator and community leader Lovye Williamson Cochran as she prepares to celebrate her 100th birthday on July 21.

Surrounded by family, friends and community members, Mrs. Cochran was recognized for a lifetime dedicated to educating children, serving others and strengthening the Albany-Dougherty County community through faith, civic engagement and volunteerism.

After graduating from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Cochran began her teaching career in Sylvester before returning to Dougherty County, where she inspired generations of students at Jackson Heights Elementary, now Robert Harvey Elementary, Coachman Park Elementary, Flintside Elementary and Sylvester Road Elementary. Her commitment to education helped shape countless young lives, leaving a lasting impact that continues to be felt throughout the community.

While her work in the classroom defined much of her career, Mrs. Cochran's dedication to service extended far beyond the school walls. Throughout her life, she devoted her time and talents to numerous organizations, including the Albany Boys & Girls Club, the Albany Advocacy Resource Center, C.K. Smith Presbyterian Church, the Flint River Presbytery, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the Semper Fidelis Club.

Mrs. Cochran will celebrate her 100th birthday with family and friends during a community celebration on Saturday, July 25, honoring a life that continues to inspire generations across Dougherty County.
