Code Enforcement Division

The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for maintaining the best interests of the citizens of Albany & Dougherty County as it relates to conducting business and property maintenance.

It is comprised of 2 Divisions: the Enforcement Division and the Marshal’s Division. The department regulates Occupational Tax Certificates, Alcohol Licenses, Solicitation Permits, and Alcoholic Beverage Handlers Cards. Inspects all vehicles for hire, investigates fraud of the City’s Utilities, and administers the False Alarm Reduction Program. Serves tax levies, serves summons and warrants, enforces regulations, performs training to area merchants hoping to prevent the sale of alcohol to persons underage, and performs security for city-owned buildings, and during judicial hearings of the Municipal Court.

In addition, it is responsible for the life-safety, general health, and welfare of the public within these boundaries as they relate to Property Maintenance of both commercial and residential properties. Also, ensure that nuisances as prescribed by city and county ordinances are brought into compliance, including illegal signs, illegal dumping, demolitions, and the rehabilitation of blighted properties.
