Westtown Library
Westtown Library : Project Overview
Dougherty County is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of the Westtown Library, located at 2124 W. Waddell Ave. Originally opened in 1978, the facility has not received a major renovation since its construction. This project represents a critical investment in modernizing the building, improving safety, and ensuring accessibility for all residents.
The renovation will address structural, mechanical, and compliance deficiencies to bring the facility up to current building and energy codes while enhancing the overall user experience.
Project Need
After more than four decades of continuous use, several core systems and features of the Westtown Library have reached the end of their functional lifespan or no longer meet regulatory standards. Key areas identified for improvement include:
- HVAC System:
The current ductwork is located beneath the building slab, limiting efficiency and maintenance access. A full replacement and relocation will improve air quality and system performance.
- Lighting:
Existing fluorescent lighting provides inadequate illumination. Upgrading to LED lighting will enhance visibility and significantly reduce energy consumption.
- Building Envelope:
The structure does not meet current energy code standards. Improvements will include updated exterior glazing, roofing, and wall insulation to increase energy efficiency.
- ADA Compliance:
Public and staff areas do not fully meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Renovations will address:
-
- Restrooms
- Ramps and railings
- Office spaces
- Service desks
These upgrades will ensure the library is accessible, safe, and functional for all patrons and staff.
