Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division handles all types of investigations but specializes in more complicated types of investigations, such as for financial crimes. Although the local police departments have detective divisions, citizens are always free to request the Sheriff's Office to conduct investigations.

The Sheriff's Office also maintains an Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) unit. The Dougherty County Sheriff's Office was the first agency in Georgia to operate such a unit, which provides critical fingerprint identification information to law enforcement agencies regionally. 

The Sex Offender Registration Unit monitors the location of sexual offenders and predators registered in Dougherty County. This specialized team of investigators regularly registers and verifies the residences of known sexual offenders and predators in Dougherty County.
