Heat Safety

Practice Heat Safety wherever you are - heat related deaths are preventable - on job sites stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible - indoors, check up on the elderly, dick and those without AC - in vehicles never leave kids or pets unattended, look before you lock - outdoors, limit strenuous activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Heat related deaths are preventable - look before you lock - the temperature in your car can quickly become deadly! Outside temperature of 80 can be 99 degrees inside in 10 minutes, 109 in 20 minutes, 114 in 30 minutes and 123 degrees in 60 minutes.
Heat exhaustion presents with fainting or dizziness, excessive sweating, cool / pale / clammy skin, nausea or vomiting, rapid/weak pulse and muscle cramps. Get to a cooler, air conditioned place, drink water if conscious and take a cool shower or use a cold compress. A heat stroke presents with throbbing headache/confusion, a body temperature above 103 degrees with red/hot/dry skin, nausea or vomiting, rapid/strong pulse and may lose consciousness. Call 9-1-1 and move person to cooler place. Cool using cool cloths or bath and do not give anything to drink!
Climate change and extreme heat causes more death each year than hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods combined. Who's at risk? Adults over 65, children under 4, people with existing medical problems such as heart disease, and people without access to air conditioning. What can you do? Stay cool, Stay hydrated, and stay informed. Learn more at cdc.gov/ephtracking
