DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GEORGIA – Beginning Monday, October 5, 2020, Dougherty County Public Works will be closing Turtle Grove Park, a county-owned and maintained park located at the corner of Broad Avenue and N. Front Street in downtown Albany, for park renovations. The Park is scheduled to be closed for approximately 60 days to complete the necessary renovations.

In August, the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners voted to complete renovations to Turtle Grove Park totaling $198,449. One of the major renovations to the Park will be the installation of approximately 12,000 square feet of poured-in-place rubberized playground surfacing. The existing wood chips will be replaced with this safer and more durable padding, which is made of recycled rubber. This padding will provide much added safety for children playing in the Park.

Additional renovations include the replacement of sun shields, located in various parts of the Park to provide shade to visitors. The new sun shields, as well as the playground surfacing, will feature the blue and green colors in the new Dougherty County logo, as well as the poles that will receive a fresh coat of paint with complimentary colors.

The Contractor completing the work for Dougherty County is Lanier Plans, Inc. DBA KORKAT out of Carrollton, Georgia. Payment for the project will be derived from SPLOST VII funds, which are earmarked for Park Improvements.

Once completed, Dougherty County Board of Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting for the reopening of the Park to the public. As the work nears completion, a Grand Opening date will be announced for the Park.
