About the State Court

Dougherty County Courthouse

The State Court exist to provide a forum for the resolution of disputes between individuals or between the state and individuals. The Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors (crimes punishable by 12 months incarceration or less) and civil cases (unlimited dollar amount) concurrently with the Superior Court, except cases involving divorce, titles to land, and equity, which are reserved exclusively to Superior Court.

The State Court Judge for Dougherty County is The Honorable John M. Stephenson. The Court is located in the Judicial Building at 225 Pine Avenue, Suite 308, Albany, and can be reached at 229.431.2152.
