The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Launches Opening of Mass Vaccination Site in Dougherty County
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA – Today, The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) launched the opening of a Mass Vaccination Site for COVID-19 in Dougherty County, which will be located at the Albany, Georgia Forestry Site at 2910 Newton Road in South Albany. Officially opening on Monday, February 22, 2021, the Dougherty site is one of four sites launched in the State of Georgia, with others in Fulton County, Habersham County, and Macon-Bibb County.
“GEMA/HS’ efforts are designed to address the vaccination needs of underserved populations that have been hardest hit by COVID-19,” said Chris Stallings, GEMA/HS Director. “The four sites selected all have surrounding populations with high percentages of minorities and individuals with incomes below the poverty line.”
The drive-through sites have the capacity to vaccinate 1,100 people per day, per site for a total of 22,000 people a week between each of the four sites. The sites will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and appointments are mandatory and can be made by visiting https://MyVaccineGeorgia.com. Only individuals who meet the phase of 1A+ guidelines are eligible for vaccination at this time. This phase includes healthcare workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, adults aged 65-plus and their caregivers, and first responders (law enforcement, fire personnel, including volunteer fire departments, dispatchers and 9-1-1 operators).
“Through our longstanding partnership with the Governor’s Office and The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, we were fortunate to be able to gain this site for our citizens here in Dougherty County,” said Christopher S. Cohilas, Chairman of the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners. “I am personally grateful to Governor Kemp and our partners with GEMA/HS for providing these needed services to our citizens in Dougherty County.”
Walk-ups to the site will not be accepted and eligibility is required. GEMA/HS Director Stallings encourages individuals to complete the registration process using a mobile device, making the intake process faster. Only one appointment per person will be accepted and those requiring special assistance may use the TTY number.
